Overview

Bombardier began deliveries of the Challenger 604 in 1996 and grew the fleet over 350 aircraft over the next 11 years.  The third variant of the 600 series, the Challenger 604 remains true to the original design in a number of ways.  What differentiates the Challenger 604 from its predecessors are incorporation of improved engines, more fuel capacity, structural improvements, and the ProLine 4 avionics. The Challenger 604 was later replaced by the Challenger 605 in 2007.  Current corporate operators of the Challenger 604 include Caterpillar, Hershey, and Raytheon.

Challenger 604 Buying Guide

When considering the Challenger 604, there are a number of considerations.  The Challenger 604 has 96 and 180 month maintenance inspections which should be evaluated for each aircraft.  An aircraft which has one of these major inspections recently completed will eliminate the cost and downtime.  Landing gear overhauls at 60 and 120 months can also be costly.  For those with pending inspections or overhauls, an optional maintenance service plan (Bombardier Smart Parts) will mitigate some cost.  Engine maintenance plans for the engines (GE OnPoint) are also available.  The Challenger fleet has experienced some corrosion and inspecting the prone areas during a prebuy inspection is recommended.
